Re-finishing doors

Re-finishing the door means you also need to remove the lock set and the surface hardware. You can remove the door or you can replace the hinges or you can soak these in paint stripper and you can polish these too. In order to refinish the door, you need first to remove any old paint on the surface of the door. You can do sanding in order to remove the remaining paint on the surface of the door. Next thing to do is to apply a couple of coats of a slow-drying oil base primer and make sure that this will be compatible with the oil-base and the latex topcoats. You also need to scan the door for cracks and any issues or signs of indentations and if you find these make sure that you fill these with vinyl spackling compound. Then that’s the time you continue with the painting.
